Jennifer Baum
Educational Therapist, M.A. Ed., ET/A
Hello!
I am a certified educational therapist based out of Burbank, California with over eighteen years of experience teaching in the classroom and one-on-one settings.
I provide individualized academic support and skill building to students with a variety of learning differences.

Educational Therapy 101

Educational therapy provides one-on-one individualized instruction and academic support for students with learning differences, such as ADHD, Dyslexia, executive functioning deficits, processing and more.  It enables students to develop the necessary skills and strategies to be successful and eventually independent learners in a classroom environment.

Educational therapy aims to identify students strengths and weaknesses and helps them overcome skill deficits by providing them with tools to become confident learners. The ultimate goal is for students to develop strategies to help them not only enjoy learning, but also perform at their highest academic potential.

Educational therapists work with the parents, teachers, and other professionals on the team to help students set attainable learning goals, provide targeted one-on-one support, conduct formal and informal skills assessments, and utilize innovative teaching techniques to meet the needs of each particular student.
Jen Baum has made the difference for our son. If it weren’t for Jen, he wouldn’t be reading now, and his self confidence would definitely be suffering. He looks forward to every session with Jen. He does not respond well to zoom classes, but with Jen, it’s something he gets excited about!

He loves talking to Jen and enjoys their sessions so much. Prior to the pandemic, when the sessions were in person, he never wanted to leave her office and was upset when his sessions were over! I’ve never heard of a kid wanting to stay with his ed therapist!

Jen is super special and she connects with kids and truly cares.  She makes learning fun. When my son was accepted to a school specifically for his learning challenges, the first question he asked me was “Mom, I still get to work with Jen, right?” My son feels safe, encouraged and supported by Jen and he’s learning.

I couldn’t ask for more.
Thank you Jen, we love you!

Who I am, and why I do it.

After obtaining my California Teaching Credential from Cal State Northridge, I taught 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade at an LAUSD school for five years. While teaching in my early years, I also acquired my Masters in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University.

I then worked at a private school in North Hollywood for 13 years, teaching 5th and 1st grade. I loved the excitement and community of working as a teacher, yet in the classroom environment, I began to notice students who were not receiving the academic support they needed to be successful.

I became acquainted with educational therapy through therapists working with my students and realized that digging in with students that struggled was my greatest passion. This led me to further my own education in the field of Educational Therapy.

I earned my Certificate of Educational Therapy from University of California Riverside and became an active member of the national Association of Educational Therapists (AET) and the International Dyslexia Association (IDA).

I also have certifications in several programs such as Orton Gillingham, Wilson Reading and the Gesell Institute at Yale.

As my private practice has grown, I am now able to devote all of my time to providing tailored, one-on-one educational therapy sessions to students in elementary and middle school online and when I meet in person again, my Burbank home office.

Making a personal connection with each student is my first priority.

I believe that through this connection and trust, all students can be taught how to learn in a way that works for them. With the right "tool box," every student can learn to advocate for themselves, learn to persevere and take responsibility for their learning. I utilize the student’s strengths, interests and talents to engage in the curriculum.

My goal for every client is for them to become successful, independent and confident learners. My approach is fun, engaging, and focused on the individualized needs of each learner.

The best part of my job is bringing back the love of learning!
I highly recommend Jen Baum!

She is an incredibly gifted Educational therapist. When she started working with our son, he was severely behind grade level. He had processing issues as well as being on the dyslexia scale.

Now two years later, our son reads at grade level. He just graduated 6th grade and was admitted to his top choice middle school. We are beyond grateful that we started Jen’s program.

Jen has helped me in organization, spelling, reading, writing, and managing work/stress.

Without Jen, I think I would have not made it through the 7th grade. One of the key points that she helped me progress in, was being able to have an organized mind and not be stressed with middle school.

Since I started seeing her as my Ed therapist, I have progressed in spelling and preparation. I'm now enjoying school and always happy to see her!
